Heute erlebte ich eine Überraschung, als ich meinen alten iPod Touch mit OS 2.2.1 wieder mal ans iTunes angeschlossen hab und mir iTunes freundlicherweise vorschlug, ich möge doch auf OS 3.0 updaten. Ich hab natürlich zugestimmt, war aber überrascht, dass ich nicht die 10$ fürs Update zahlen musste.
Nun stimmt es leider nicht, dass das Update auf OS 3.0 gratis ist, allerdings hab ich das Update trotzdem umsonst bekommen, ohne zu hacken oder sonstwas zu machen. Der Grund: ich hab schon mal auf OS 2.0 upgedatet und damals auch brav die 10$ bezahlt.
So wie’s scheint, sind folgende Firmware Updates in den 10$ inbegriffen. Ich hab auch ein paar Kommentare im Netz gefunden, die behaupten, dass man mit dem 10$ Update, beliebig viele iPod Touch (1. und 2. To make things clear, i didn’t hack it and it is 100% legal, because the update is free, if you have already payed the 10$ for a previous update. In my case i updated my iPod Touch to OS 2.0 spending the 10$ when it came out. Obviously any (!) sequent updates are / will (?) be free.
Some people commented some posts around the net stating that if you pay the 10$ for one iPod Touch OS update you can update as many of your iPod Touches (1G and 2G) as you like without paying the 10$ again.
